In this first book we are introduced to the three Baudelaire Children- 14 year old Violet, 12 year old Klaus and baby Sunny. They soon learn that their parents have died in a house fire and must live with Count Olaf. With money grubbing Count Olaf around they realize that their families fortune is in trouble. While this story doesn't grant a happy ending it is one interesting read.
