This is the story of boy named Jeffrey that is an orphan who has been living with his Aunt and Uncle for eight years. He eventually decides to run away during a musical performance at his school. He soon ends up in a town in Pennsylvania. Once there he meets Amanda who he becomes friends with and who takes him in. This book incorporates elements of racial identity and is used quite often in school curriculum. Pick up this Newbery Award Winner at your local bookstore or public library.
